Business Affiliates Annual
Recognition Event
In early October, the Business Advisory Council and
Dean John McAllister hosted the annual Business Affiliates
recognition event. Held at the University Center on
the university’s campus, the luncheon event
provided a networking opportunity for fellow Business
Affiliates members as well as recognition for
their continuing generosity.
“This annual event provides the
Coggin College with an opportunity to not only say thank
you to the individuals and businesses who support the
Business Affiliates program, but also to share current
business initiatives and achievements,” said Dr.
John P. McAllister.
At the luncheon, McAllister shared
a presentation titled “Have Business Schools Lost
Their Way?” to the group of Business Affiliates
and Business Advisory Council members. The title references
a recent Harvard Business Review article which suggests
that many business schools may not be in touch with
what corporate America is looking for in graduates.
However, McAllister shared that the
Coggin College of Business vision provides students
with a unique opportunity to understand theory so as
to be equipped for the “unknown” challenge,
while also enjoying transformational experiences such
as study abroad programs, CEO lectures in the classroom
for real-world applications, and more.
“We’re thrilled to have
John McAllister on board as dean,” said David
A. Smith, Business Advisory Council chair and an alumnus
of the Coggin College of Business. “His remarks
at the event clearly show that the Coggin College is
in the right hands.”
McAllister joined the Coggin College
of Business as dean this summer. Previously, he served
as an accounting professor and academic administrator
at St. Bonaventure University (New York) and Kennesaw
State University (Atlanta).
