Frequently Asked Questions

What are the hours of operation for the Student Service Center?
-

- Click here for current hours of operation.

Advisors primarily work with students on a walk-in basis. Our busiest times are close to registration and graduation. Students should try to come see an advisor well in advance of registration. If there are questions about the best times to see an advisor, students should call the Student Service Center at 620-2575.

Graduate Students:
Please contact the Student Service Center for advisor availability.

During Registration Periods:
The office is open Monday – Thursday from 9-7, Friday 9-5. Normally advisors see students on a walk-in basis during those hours. Remember that this is a very busy time, and that there will most likely be a wait.

How do I get permission for a directed independent study?
-
Students may pick up the appropriate form from the departmental offices or the Student Service Center. Forms are to be completed by the student and the faculty member directing the independent study. It is the student’s responsibility to arrange with the professor the course title and course specifications required. These specifications must include how the study is to be evaluated for a grade. After the appropriate signatures are obtained (student, faculty member, department chairperson, and Associate Dean if a graduate course is involved), the form should be submitted to the Student Service Center (Room 2021 of Building 42). If all the appropriate requirements are met including student eligibility, electronic permission is given by the Director of the Student Service Center. Students are notified of the approval or disapproval by email.

Will I be required to take a certain amount of coursework each semester?
-
No. Students can go at their own pace as long as they do not need to be full-time for athletic eligibility, financial aid, or other reasons. UNF defines full-time enrollment as completing 12 semester hours per term for Undergraduates and 9 semester hours per term for Graduates. Students must complete their program of study course work within a six-year window. Therefore, students may need to look at their enrollment pace to ensure that program of study coursework can be completed within this six-year window and stay under their original program of study course requirements.

Do you offer online classes?
-
No, UNF uses blended learning. Our faculty feel that students learn best from classroom interaction with both the instructor and other class members present.

Can I take classes at another institution once I enroll in the
Coggin College of Business at UNF?
-
Once students matriculate to the Coggin College of Business at UNF, they are expected to complete their course work at UNF. Under special circumstances, students may request to take course work at another institution. The process is to complete a petition to waive university policy and a concurrent enrollment form and to furnish documentation of the special circumstances. A College committee then makes a decision on a case by case basis.

How do I return to UNF if I have been suspended from the Coggin College of Business? -
First Time Suspension
Students who are returning after their first suspension have not broken continuous enrollment and should write a letter to the department chair of their major area of study. This letter should detail the reasons for the suspension and list a specific action plan that the student plans to accomplish in order to improve his/her academic status. Students should then make an appointment with their academic advisor at least eight weeks before the beginning of the semester for which they wish to return. This appointment is necessary to process the necessary paperwork for readmission. Students should take the letter mentioned above with them to their advising appointment.

Students who have Broken Continuous Enrollment
Students in this category must reapply at the Admissions Office at least 12 weeks before the beginning of the term for which they are seeking reenrollment. Readmission is not automatic. Once the college makes a decision on the student’s request, students are notified of the decision by mail. Students who are readmitted are sent specific instructions on their readmission conditions and given specific procedures to follow so that registration can take place in a timely manner. The reapplication deadline is strictly enforced by the college.

What happens if I’m placed on academic probation?
-
Students placed on academic probation are strongly encouraged to make an appointment with their academic advisor to discuss the specific circumstances leading to the probationary status. The advisor can offer advice on services available at UNF that may assist the students with their particular problems. Students can be placed on academic probation for one of two reasons:

• Undergraduate Student’s overall GPA fell below a 2.00
