Summary:
This course helps students understand how economics can be applied to many daily decisions in their daily lives, and provide a unique opportunity to discover the roles of cultural, social, and economics factors in such decision-making process through research collaboration with students in China & Taiwan.
Do you know how several simple economic principles can help you to make important decisions in life – on education, leisure, work, consumption, health and almost everything else? Or maybe you have been making important choices following these principles without knowing it? How do college students like you on the other side of the planet (in China & Taiwan) make their important decisions in life? If the same economic principles are the underlying guidance, how can their choices be different from yours? Your instructors will give you a toolbox (containing some microeconomics principles, some statistics, one airline ticket, and a few other things) and let you find our own answers!
First, UNF students will team up with students from Taiwan (Soochow University) and China (Beijing International Studies University) using blackboard to develop research topics on one aspect that affects college students. Second, the UNF students will travel to China & Taiwan to meet their international research partners face to face and exchange ideas (plus, of course, visiting lots of cultural sites like Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, The Great Wall, Temple of Heaven, and the Summer Palace in Beijing and Longshan Temple, National Palace Museum and the Taipei 101 Financial Building in Taipei!) Finally, the international research partners will present their final reports.
