The International Office will help reserve accommodations for exchange students in one of the local halls of residence. The rent for these rooms usually amounts to between €157 and €280 per month, plus a deposit of up to €540. The rent and deposit must be paid on arrival in Bamberg. Rental contracts begin on September 1 for the winter semester and March 1 for the summer semester.
The fall (or "winter") semester runs from mid-October to February, with a required orientation beginning in September. The spring (or "summer") semester runs from mid-April to late July, with a required orientation in mid-March.
German language courses, including an intensive 3-week, 4-credit pre-semester course, are available. The additional cost for the intensive language course is approximately €200.
Students are required to individually obtain the necessary visa for study abroad prior to departure. Most semester programs are more than 90 days. Students should visit the U.S. Department of State webpage which links to each country's Embassy. Many visa applications must be made in person — please plan ahead!
