Planning for Arrival
Non-US citizens must have a valid visa to study at UNF as an exchange student. To obtain a visa, you must have a DS-2019 issued by UNF. Consult the US Embassy in your home country for information on the visa application process. Once students have submitted their application, financial affidavit, and passport copy, they can expect processing to begin on their DS-2019 soon. Therefore it is important for students to submit these three items as early as possible. Once the DS-2019 is complete, it will be mailed along with your welcome packet to your home institution.
Exchange students should plan to fly into Jacksonville, Florida (airport code: JAX). We DO
NOT recommend flying into a different city in Florida and then traveling
to Jacksonville. Please be aware that public transportation in the
United States is not nearly as developed as it is in other countries and tends to be very expensive.
When to Arrive in Jacksonville
Students should expect to arrive a few days before classes start at UNF and before the two REQUIRED international student orientations (see above). Please take these factors into consideration when making flight arrangements. Once you have arranged your flight, you must send your flight information and itinerary to our office.
If it is unclear when you should arrive or you have any questions about your arrival plans, please e-mail Caitlin Jaeger.
Arriving in Jacksonville and Getting to Campus
You may want to download our Campus Map to familiarize yourself with the campus.
During certain designated days, the UNF International Center offers transportation from Jacksonville International Airport (airport code: JAX) to campus for students who will be living on campus only. Information on the airport pick up days will be mailed to you with your DS-2019 and welcome packet. Students living on campus should notify our office of their arrival plans as early as possible so we can assist in making arrangements for checking-in with the Housing Department. . Students who will be living off campus will have to make their own transportation arrangements from the airport to their accommodations. All students are required to return the "Statement of Intent to Enroll" form in the DS-2019 welcome packet with their flight information and arrival plans filled in on the form.
Fall 2013 airport pick up dates will be: August 21, 22, & 23.
If you plan to arrive before your housing is available for move-in, you may choose to stay temporarily in one of UNF's preferred hotels (see "Local Hotels" under "Visiting UNF").
