Exchange Students

Welcome to UNF's Coggin College of Business! International students whose home institutions are not Coggin College exchange partners should refer to the Office of Admissions site for international students.

Courses

Students may find the following resources helpful when gathering information about UNF courses. NOTE - Undergraduate courses are numbered between 1000-4000 and graduate courses are numbered in the 6000s.

Prerequisites

All students must meet course prerequisites. Prerequisites are previous course work or knowledge that establish eligibility to enroll in a course. Students can view course prerequisites on UNF's Course Schedule by clicking "Search by Subject", choosing the semester and course, and then clicking "View Catalogue Entry" or by reviewing the course description in the appropriate UNF Catalog (above).

Incoming exchange students are required to complete a “Course Schedule Request Form” prior to arriving in Jacksonville. Each school's exchange officers must certify that students have taken an equivalent prerequisite in order for students to be able to enroll in the course.

Teaching Format

Courses are taught in a variety of ways. Some courses have 3 or 4 exams per semester, some require group projects and presentations, and others require research projects. The class is given a course syllabus at the start of the term. This document outlines the grading system, attendance requirements and expectations for the course.

The University of North Florida does not hold “re-sit” exams. You should be prepared to take each exam at the time it is scheduled and not expect to retake it if you are unsatisfied with your grade. On an individual basis, the professor will handle emergencies. All academic policies will be explained at the start of the term.

Credits

In order to maintain visa status, all undergraduate (years 1-4) students must take a MINIMUM of 12 credit hours, which is considered “full-time” enrollment at the University of North Florida. This usually averages out to 4 or 5 classes. The average course load is 12-16 credit hours. The maximum number of credits students may take per semester is 20. Undergraduate students may only take courses numbered in the 1000-4000s. Undergraduate exchange students are unable to take MAN 4720.

Graduate students must take a MINIMUM of 9 credit hours, which is considered “full-time” enrollment at the University of North Florida. The average course load is 9-12 hours for graduate students. Graduate students may take courses numbered in the 6000s. Graduate exchange students are unable to take MAN 6726.

If a course is 3 credit hours, this means that the class meets in a classroom for three hours each week for the entire semester (16 weeks). Professors expect that for every credit hour enrolled, students should be preparing 1-2 hours outside of the classroom for the class. This means for one course a student will be in the classroom for 3 hours a week PLUS spending an additional 3-6 hours PER WEEK preparing for the course.

Grading

An “F” or “WF” grade is assigned to students who fail/do not pass a course. No credit will be awarded.

A student earns credit for a “D” grade. However, in the Coggin College of Business, students who earn a “D” in a course must repeat that course – indicating that students did not make satisfactory progress in that subject.
