 Teaching Philosophy

I have taught a variety of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, with special emphasis on elementary and secondary science education; science, technology, and society; and graduate level research.  I taught Science, Technology, and Society and Introduction to Brain and Behavior in the State University London Study program in 1988, using London historical settings and museums.  I strongly emphasize inquiry learning, research findings on how learning occurs, links to community settings, and appropriate uses of instructional technology.  Since 1999 I have incorporated electronic components and networking into my courses.  I believe in identifying and meeting student needs as a prerequisite to learning at all levels. I always learn from my own students and enjoy the interactions that occur each semester.
