About Dr. Roberson
Dr.
Len Roberson has been involved in the fields of deaf education and
interpreting for over 21 years. His interest in, and heart
for,
Deaf people comes from his maternal grandfather who was deaf.
Len
holds both the certificate of interpretation (CI) and the certificate
of transliteration (CT) and the Specialist Certificate: Legal (SC:L)
from the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) as well
as a Ph.D. from Gallaudet University in Deaf Education. He is
currently the department chair of the Department of Exceptional Student
and Deaf Education and director of the Deaf Education program at the
University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida. Len’s
experiences in the classroom span both residential and mainstream
settings and he has served several school districts as a consultant in
the area of deaf education and educational interpreting and is involved
with several national organizations in the field of Deafness.
He
has been an interpreter educator for more than 18 years assisting
interpreters of all skill levels to reach their goals in professional
development. Len lead the development of the new ASL/English
Interpreting program at UNF that has both an undergraduate and graduate
program in interpreting. Len has published several articles
in
the area of teacher effectiveness and preparation. Len is
also
the co-owner of Signs
of Interpreting,
a sign language interpreting agency in NE
Florida.
Len is married and has seven beautiful children, 4 girls and 3 boys,
including a wonderful Deaf daughter who is 11 and an energetic Deaf son
who is 6.
