Sander, Allan N. Ph.D.

Dr. Allan N. Sander is
a Professor of Physical Education at
UNF. His physical education degrees
include a Ph.D. from Florida State
University, an M.A. from the University
of Denver, and a B.S. from Springfield
College, Massachusetts. He is a Florida
Instructor for the American Master
Teacher Program for Children's Physical
Education, a Past-President of the
Association for Physical Education in
Florida AHPERD, and a Florida AHPERD
College/University Teacher Educator of
the Year. (Prior to his tenure at UNF,
Dr. Sander was a teacher educator at
Stetson University and teacher
educator/coach at Northeastern
University in Boston. His K-12 public
school experience in physical education
and coaching encompassed six years in
Massachusetts.) During the last three
decades he has engaged in a scholarly
focus on K-12 pedagogical efficiency and
children's fitness education with
numerous national/state publications and
presentations. Recently Dr. Sander
published a text through Kendall/Hunt
entitled "Gymnastics & Muscle Fitness in
the Elementary School" and also serves
on the Professional Advisory Committee
on Childhood Obesity at Nemours Clinic.
He currently teaches Motor Behavior (PET
3311), Special Methods Physical
Education (PET 3713),
Games/Dance/Gymnastics in the Elementary
School (PEO 4041, DAE 3310, PEP 3205),
Health & Movement in Elementary School (HSC
3301), and Student Teaching (PET 4945L).
His professional dedication is to
developing K-12 physical education
teachers who seek to model excellence in
teaching movement skills and
health-related fitness for all students,
as opposed to a sport coaching emphasis
in extra-curricular programs.
