Undergraduate Programs

BAE in Special Education: Exceptional Student Education Program of Study

Academic Learning Compact: Special Education

The undergraduate program in Special Education prepares teachers with competencies necessary to produce achievement gains and desirable behavior changes in students with disabilities. Successful completion of the courses of study will result in certification in exceptional student education. The program is sequential in nature with some courses offered only once a year; therefore, students are requested and encouraged to enter in the fall term. Before beginning course work, students must consult an advisor in the College's Division of  Academic Advising.

Admission to the Program
Those entering the College of Education and Human Services must meet University admissions requirements as well as
specific COEHS admissions criteria.

Tentative block schedules
These block schedules are not to be used in lieu of your Program of Study but to assist in appropriate sequencing of course work and for planning each term. The schedules are intended to be a suggested sequence for the program; however, completion of the program is subject to course availability.

Block Schedule for Admissions during:
Fall
Spring
Summer

This tentative schedule is subject to change. The schedule assumes that you:

  • Have satisfied all prerequisites, foreign language, and General Education requirements, and
  • Are a full-time student, can take day and evening classes, and do not break continuity.

To help you plan:

  1. Field Labs I & II require at least 5 daytime hours per week at an assigned school site.
  2. Successful completion of Field I and II are prerequisite to internship.
  3. Field II and TSL 4340 cannot be taken during the same semester.
  4. Applications for internship are due by the 4th week of the term before you expect to intern. Late applications are not accepted.
  5. Passing ALL FTCE (General Knowledge, Professional Education, and Subject Area Exam) is required for graduation.

*These courses are usually taught once a year. If you can't take a full load, take these special education courses first so that you don't delay your graduation by a year. EEX 3202, EEX 4101, EEX 4221, and EEX 4281 are taught each summer. It is unlikely that any other courses will be taught more than once per year.
