Thank you!
You determine the Future of the First Coast.

This past year, 496 people gave generously to the COEHS. Let’s start to think about this year.
Due to the support of our friends, the COEHS received many gifts last year. Your generosity impacts not only the students in the COEHS but also First Coast children and their families. The effects are far-reaching in the Jacksonville area, Florida and perhaps even the nation. This year, we continue to rely on you for support.

Our initiatives for the coming year are the following:

Scholarship Support. The need continues to provide more funding to students interested in becoming teachers. Students find that they cannot do their internship, a necessary part of their educational experience, and work at the same time. They incur large amounts of student debt which, on a teacher’s salary, is a deterrent to joining the profession.

International programs. The COEHS recognizes the need for teachers to have broad exposure to many different ideas, cultures and lifestyles. The diversity courses and programs in the COEHS help achieve this goal. More emphasis needs to be placed on gaining experience abroad and exchange programs as well to ensure that the area’s teachers have many different types of experiences to draw upon as they teach.

Endowed Professorships. The capacity of COEHS faculty to develop and sustain educational research of value to the Jacksonville community is dependent on support for professional development, participation in national networks of scholars, and funds to support the costs of research. Funding for endowed professorships will help the COEHS attract and retain excellent teachers and researchers.
If everyone who gave a gift last year to the COEHS continues to give at the same level, the COEHS will continue to grow. However, with just a little bit more from everyone, the COEHS can thrive.

Here are some ideas for you on how to increase your support painlessly:
tell a friend about your support and encourage your friend to match your gift
when you get ready to make this year’s pledge, consider increasing last year’s gift by 35%
think about giving through a trust or bequest so your legacy lives on forever

We understand that the economy has not been kind to us in the last few years. However that makes your gift even more important to the COEHS: we need to continue preparing teachers to educate our children.
