Senator Betty Holzendorf Selected for UNF Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award

The distinguished Alumni Achievement Award, the highest award given to a University of North Florida alumnus/a by the UNF Alumni Association, was awarded to Senator Betty Holzendorf on February 13th at the 8th Annual Alumni Recognition Dinner.

Senator Holzendorf received her master’s degree in education from the college in 1973. She has had a distinguished career in education and civil service, and she was instrumental in helping the college create the Urban Teacher Internship Program which allows the college to work closely with urban elementary schools and place interns at urban schools. She is also responsible for legislative funding of a grant initiative at UNF and the University of Central Florida to support beginning teachers in urban schools.


John Ruis and Susan Wilkinson Honored as COEHS Outstanding Alumni

Dr. John L. Ruis and Dr. Susan Wilkinson were honored at the Alumni Recognition Dinner and Ceremony as the college’s 2003 Outstanding Alumni.

John L. Ruis is the Superintendent of the Nassau County School District. After obtaining a masters in education degree from UNF in 1980, he earned a doctoral degree in educational leadership from the University of Florida in 1995.

Susan Wilkinson is President of the Schultz Center for Teaching and Leadership. She previously served as Chief Executive Director of Episcopal Children’s Services, Inc., and as a two-term member and chair of the Duval County School Board.
