Prizes:
In all, 29 stories will be selected for publication in an H&R Block publication and each author will receive one free copy. Also, the selected writers be awarded with a Second Look review of one personal IRS tax return completed during the past three years.
Winner will receive a $290 cash prize.
Submissions:
Stories should be no longer than 400 words and all genres are accepted. The story can be about any topic or written in any tense. However, the story must contain the phrase, "worth a second look." This phrase may be used any place in the story. It doesn’t matter if it is at the beginning, middle or end. Without the phrase, entries will be disqualified.
All work must be original. Each entry will serve as the writer's pledge that
the work is original. Eligible writers must be must be in at least 9th grade to submit
work. High school students and adults must live in North Florida or South Georgia to be eligible to win. All work submitted must be original and not previously published elsewhere.
Manuscripts should include writer's name, address and telephone number.
Students should also include the name of their school, grade and their teacher's name.
Manuscripts cannot be returned or acknowledged.
Deadline: The deadline is Sunday, January 25, 2009. Upload stories to enter contest on jacskonville.com or manuscripts can be mailed to Second Look Writing contest, H&R Block, 4495-315 Roosevelt Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32210.

Is now accepting submissions for its inaugural issue!
HAT accepts fiction (max 6,000 words),stand-alone novel excerpts are fine; poetry (up to five poems); short drama (no more than forty pages, standard format); and criticism of any kind.
Each submission should have the author's name, email address and phone number at the top. Also, append any contributor's notes.
All manuscripts should be attached in email as .doc or .pdf files.
Snail mail submissions not accepted. Multiple and simultaneous submissions accepted so long as we are informed when and if they are published elsewhere.
