Where Sleeping Dragons Lie

Short Sentences
Without profound thought
Small talk
For the lack of something
More appropriate to say.

You wear you armor when we speak
But it seems to have a hidden chink
A softer spot hidden underneath
A crevice that let me creep
Back into layers where I don’t belong.

We’ll cut it short
Keep it neat
Passably clean
Flaw muted, left unseen
Like so much dirt beneath your fingernails
Nasty details hiding in between
The outer layers that you display
And the inner layers where my body lays
Under your skin, right at home, and fast asleep.
