Kathryn Grant


Visiting Assistant Professor of Anthropology
(Ph.D., University of Florida)

Medical Anthropology, Gender, Sexuality, and Gerontology.


Kathryn Grant received her Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Florida in 2005. She holds a MA in Latin American Studies from the University of Florida and a BA in Sociology/Anthropology from Florida International University. Her research interests are focused on the cultural dynamics of gender, age, social class and ethnicity issues in health care interactions in Florida. Her research background includes studies of physician-patient communication about sexual health for midlife and older women; HIV/STI primary prevention in clinical practice; physician advice and practices for the menopausal transition; uses of complementary and alternative medicine for menopausal transition and post-cancer treatment; masculine gender ideology and schemas for prostate cancer survivors; and generational, gender and ethnic identity issues for Cuban-Americans.  Her dissertation research was sponsored by the National Science Foundation and a Woodrow Wilson Dissertation Grant in women’s health.
