Anthropology Minor
A Certificate
in Anthropology is awarded by the department upon completion of the
course and fieldwork listed below and successful completion of a baccalaureate
degree. The emphasis of the minor is to provide the student with the
basic tenets of anthropology and to enable him/her to better appreciate
both cross-cultural and time-depth studies of humanity.
Why Minor
in Anthropology?
As the world is becoming more intimately interconnected and diverse, employers
are increasingly looking for professionals capable of functioning effectively
is a culturally diverse environment. The minor in anthropology aims to develop
a deeper appreciation of the inner workings of cultures and to promote greater
inter-cultural understanding. Furthermore, the minor, because of its great flexibility,
is designed to enable students to pursue their interest in a particular aspect
of anthropology, such as archaeology, cultural anthropology, etc.

Required Courses (9 SEMESTER HOURS)
Students are required to take 8 hours of consecutive Foreign Language or 8 hours of American Sign Language or 9 hours of Foreign Culture courses. Please consult the latest version of the UNF academic catalogue for details on course offerings.
Select three courses out of the most current list of “Major
Requirements.”
Electives (6 SEMESTER HOURS)
Select Two Courses (3000 - 4000 LEVEL) out of the list of “Major
Electives.”
Conditions for the minor:
- No more than 6 semester hours, or 2 courses may be transferred
in to satisfy minor course requirements.
- No more than 3 semester
hours, or 1 course carrying lower-division numbers may be used to
satisfy any minor requirement.
- A grade of "C" or better
must be earned in each minor course.
