The Florida Institute of Government was established by the Board of Regents in 1981 to provide training, technical assistance and applied research to state and local government, special districts and non-profit organizations throughout Florida. Services are provided through a network of affiliates located within the state university and community college system. The Institute of Government at the University of North Florida serves as one of those affiliates.

The Institute of Government at the University of North Florida seeks to provide a wide variety of low-cost, high quality training programs to meet the unique developmental needs of public agencies, nonprofit groups and civic organizations. Training is offered through open enrollment courses held at accessible locations within the UNF service area or may be contracted and delivered on-site for your organization. Training programs can be customized to address your organization's special needs (see contact information).

In addition to training, the Institute of Government is readily available to place expert teams within your agency to tackle complicated tasks. Public opinion surveys, employee attitude surveys, economic development studies, strategic plans, public policy forums and other types of assistance are offered through a unique network of academic researchers and private consultants.

The Institute of Government oversees each project to maintain quality, effective design and timeliness and serves as your link to the wealth of information centered within the university system.
