Ian Clarke is one of today's most innovative composers for for flute, his two pieces are inspired by the natural world: Orange Dawn, the vision of a dawn scene in the Great Rift Valley of East Africa, and Spiral Lament about wonderous giant snails.
The Sancan was a test piece for the Paris Conservatory in 1946. The Reinecke is one of the few large romantic works for the flute, based on the fairy tale of "Undine".
The Taffanel is a virtuosic fantasie on themes from the opera Der Freischutz, and the Mower is a high energy movement from a piece called Sonata Latino and is based on music from Brazil.
