These dates refer to the M.S. in Mathematics or Statistics only.

Unless otherwise noted, the dates above represent the date when the application, transcripts, and test scores should be received by the Graduate School. Applications received after the posted deadline may be considered on a case-by-case and first-come-first-served basis.

The deadlines repeat each year, and if the date falls on a weekend or holiday, the next following business day shall be the effective deadline. Application and Fee
To apply to the Graduate School, prospective students must submit an application and application fee. An application may be submitted online with an application fee of $30. If you submit a paper application , the application fee is also $30. This is a one-time fee, so current and former UNF degree-seeking students do not need to pay the fee again. Post-baccalaureate and non-degree seeking students must submit the paper application; however, no application fee is required for non-degree seeking students.

Transcripts
All graduate applicants must provide evidence, in the form of official transcripts, of an earned baccalaureate degree from an approved college or university. An approved college or university is one that has candidacy or membership status with the appropriate regional accrediting agency, such as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Students should submit one official copy of their transcripts to the Graduate School by the posted deadline. Former UNF students will normally not need to request transcripts unless they have attended an institution since leaving UNF.

GRE exam/scores
In addition to official transcripts, students must provide official scores from the appropriate aptitude test. UNF's Institution Code for both exams is 5490.

The UNF Division of Continuing Education offers GRE and GMAT prep courses throughout the year. More information about the dates and times of these courses can be found here . Test preparation books are also available at the UNF Library and Bookstore.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics requires:
GRE minimum of 1000 total (verbal and quantitative) with a minimum of 600 in the quantitative section.

Other requirements
All prospective graduate students must have completed the prerequisites for the courses they will be taking. Please see the graduate catalog for a complete list.

I'm a current or former student of UNF. Are there differences in the application process?
If you are a current or former UNF degree-seeking student, the application process is slightly different.

You will not need to fill out a full application or pay the application fee. You will simply need to complete the Student Update Form and return it to the Graduate School. At this time, the form must be completed in paper version. To download the form, click here .

If you have attended any other colleges since you last attended UNF, you will need to supply official copies of those transcripts to the Graduate School.

Requirements for the GRE and GMAT tests remain the same for all students.

I need to complete some undergraduate prerequistes. What do I do?
If you need to complete undergraduate prerequisites in order to be admissible to a graduate program, you may apply to UNF as a Post-baccalaureate student for graduate prerequisites. This application can only be completed in the paper form at this time. To download the application, please click here . Tuition and Fees
Tuition is due by the end of the first week of class. All tuition and fees must be pended or paid by that date. If you receive financial aid, you should visit the financial aid web site . If you have questions about your financial aid, please contact the Office of Financial Aid by e-mail at http://www.unf.edu/view/current/contact.php , or by telephone at (904) 620-5555.

The Florida Legislature, working in conjunction with the UNF Board of Trustees, determines annual tuition increases, the changes taking effect at the beginning of the fall semester each year.

The financial aid programs at the University of North Florida have been developed to provide financial assistance to current and prospective students.

There are several types of financial aid including subsidized and unsubsidized student loans, graduate scholarships, graduate assistantships, research and teaching assistantships, out-of-state tuition waivers, and matriculation waivers. Graduate students are welcome to apply for any funding for which they feel qualified.

By far the most accessible form of funding for graduate students, subsidized and unsubsidized student loans are available from the One Stop Student Services office. Returning students must reapply for student loans each year. The FAFSA is available January 1 each year.

IMPORTANT : If you do not complete the following process by April 1, there is a strong likelihood that your funding will NOT be available by the beginning of the fall semester. You will be responsible for any and all financial obligations including, but not limited to housing, books, and tuition / fees.

If you receive funding in an amount to cover all of your tuition and fees you shouldn't have any out-of-pocket expenses for tuition and fees that semester. The process is done by computer, so once your award is in the system, the Cashier's Office should be able to process your award and show your fees as being taken care of.

Please note, however, that if your award covers only part of your tuition and fees you will be responsible for any outstanding balance. If you do not pay the outstanding balance the Cashier's Office will place a hold on your records.

If you receive an award in excess of that term's tuition and fees, you will receive a refund check for the excess. These checks are mailed out several weeks after the start of each semester.

How do I apply for financial aid?
* Complete and process the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the renewal and mail to the government-processing center. To expedite the process, you can use the FAFSA Express on the Internet.
* To be awarded graduate financial aid, a student MUST be accepted into a graduate degree-seeking major by the Graduate School.
* If you transfer to UNF for the spring or summer semesters, you must complete a UNF MID-YEAR Transfer Form and provide a Financial Aid Transcript from the last institution you attended. This is necessary even if you did not receive financial aid from that institution.
*If selected for VERIFICATION by the U.S. Department of Education the student will be required to provide copies of tax returns. Married students MUST also provide their spouse's tax information.

I received an award letter. Now what do I do with it?
* Return the original copy of your signed award letter to the One Stop Student Services office indicating your lender.
* Complete the Application/Promissory Note for Federal Stafford Loan and mail it to your lender listed on your application.

Note: If the lender selected is NOT one of the preferred lenders, you must do the following:
* Provide the UNF One Stop Student Services office with the lender name, address, lender code, and phone number.
* Request a loan Application/Promissory Note from the lender; and complete and return the loan.
* Return Application/Promissory Note to the UNF One Stop Student Services office.
Your award letter requires you to inform us of money or aid you receive which is not listed on your award notice. If you received money for educational expenses from other sources at any time during the year, we may have to send you a revised award letter reducing your award. In some circumstances, you may be required to repay aid already awarded.

What are waivers?
There are two types of waivers that may be available for graduate students in certain programs - the Out-of-State Tuition Waiver and the Graduate Matriculation Waiver. Waivers are awarded by the credit hour for a specified amount. Students are responsible for the outstanding balance not covered by the waiver. When available, waivers are awarded by the academic department in which the student is admitted. Graduate students are encouraged to contact their program director for more information and to inquire about the possibility of aquiring such a waiver.

An Out-of-State tuition waiver does not change your residency status for tuition purposes; it merely reduces your out-of-pocket expenses by the amount of the award. The amount of an Out-of-State tuition waiver will vary from department to department depending the availability of funds.

A full Graduate Matriculation Waiver covers the Matriculation Fee portion of a student's Florida resident tuition and fees. Currently, this is approximately 75% of the cost per credit hour. In some cases due to available funding only partial waivers are awarded, which will result in a smaller percentage of tuition being waived.

What about Graduate Assistantships?
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers a graduate degree of
Master of Science in Mathematical Sciences . Students can take either the Mathematics or the Statistics track.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers a limited number of graduate assistantships. Graduate students who wish to apply for assistantships should apply to the department by completing an application form  and should have three reference letters from their respective professors sent directly to the Graduate Director of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.  Complete applications should be received by March 15 for Fall assistantships.  Late applications will be considered for any positions that were not filled by earlier applicants.  Graduate assistantships are awarded on a competitive basis, and they are awarded only after a student has been accepted in to the program.
