Welcome

...to the Irish Studies website at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida.

The university regularly offers Irish Studies courses in Celtic spirituality, literature, art history, history, nursing, and political science, and will be adding courses in film, sociology, and other disciplines. Such courses may count toward an appropriate major or minor, including the International Studies major or minor, or as electives. LIT3184, Introduction to Irish Literature and Culture, has been approved as a foreign culture course.

Each fall and spring semester a variety of public events — lectures, concerts, poetry readings, symposia, etc. — are offered in the Irish Studies Performance and Lecture Series (see below for upcoming events). To encourage development of courses with significant Irish Studies content, John Francis Reilly Irish Studies Fellowships are periodically awarded to UNF faculty (11 have been awarded to date). Each spring the Moriarty Prize of $250 is awarded at the university convocation to the UNF undergraduate student whose work in Irish Studies, in any academic discipline, has been judged most outstanding.
