Irish Studies @ the University of North Florida
About Irish Studies at UNF
The Irish Studies Program at UNF was begun in 1995 with the generous support of the Schultz Foundation, which agreed to fund a 10 year pilot program in Irish Studies. Since 1995, the university has offered dozens of courses in Irish Studies, sponsored numerous academic trips to Ireland, and brought dozens of noted writers, musicians, and artists to Jacksonville. The Schultz foundation, through its John Francis Reilly Series, has presented nearly 70 public events, all free and open to the public, including a varied array of lectures, concerts, reaings, screenings, and more. The Reilly fellowships have been awarded to seven UNF faculty to date and have enabled Irish Studies course offerings to expand during its history from one academic discipline (literature) to six (adding art history, education, history, nursing, and political science).
