Humanities C: Visual Art and Music History and Appreciation
Criteria for Proposal of General Education Courses
Courses in the Humanities C section of the General Education curriculum introduce students to the history of the visual arts and of music, as well as to analytical approaches to the appreciation and interpretation of the fine and performing arts. Courses are designed to convey an overview of the history of the fine and performing arts, emphasizing important developments or changes occurring over time in the character and cultural roles of the arts. Students should acquire a general knowledge of theoretical concepts, terminology, and modes of critical analysis that are essential to understanding the fine and performing arts and to appreciating their cultural value and significance. Typically, courses in Humanities C will contribute to the following General Education outcomes:
