FIGs: General Education Learning Communities

Incoming freshmen at the University of North Florida have an opportunity to begin their collegiate experiences by enrolling in a Freshman Interest Group (FIG).

Students register for two or three General Education courses linked to a common theme.  Each FIG is limited to 22 students.

Learning communities are an especially effective way to ease the transition from high school and college. Students in learning communities across the U.S. find that they enjoy college more and do better in all their courses, both inside and outside the FIG.

Due to current budget constraints, the University of North Florida is unable to offer FIG opportunities for Fall 2009. The university is developing other freshman learning community opportunities for the Fall 2009 freshman class. Information will be available at orientation.
