FIGs: General Education Learning Communities

Incoming freshmen at the University of North Florida have an opportunity to begin their collegiate experiences by enrolling in a Freshman Interest Group (FIG).

Students register for two or three General Education courses linked to a common theme.  Each FIG is limited to 27 students.

Learning communities are an especially effective way to ease the transition from high school and college. Students in learning communities across the U.S. find that they enjoy college more and do better in all their courses, both inside and outside the FIG.

Every entering freshman is eligible to register for a FIG. You register for your chosen FIG just as you would for any regular course, only with a FIG you register for all three courses together in a single block.  FIGs cost no more than any other courses.
