English at UNF — Department Policies

General Policies

Prerequisites -- Students who come to UNF without the prerequisite courses may take such courses here or elsewhere.

Major Credit Limits -- Students may receive major credit for a total of no more than six (6) hours in workshops, practicums, and internships.

Minimum Grade Requirement -- Undergraduate students in the Department of English must earn a C or above in all courses which count toward completion of requirements in its major and minor programs.

Audit -- Students may audit a class only one time.

Attendance -- Students must notify the English Department office in advance if they will miss the first class meeting of a course. Otherwise, students who miss that meeting may be dropped from the course immediately.

Graduate Admission Policies

SUS Graduate Admission Requirements

Students must have either (a) a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the last two years (60 semester hours) of undergraduate course work or (b) a combined score of 1000 on the verbal and quantitative sections of the GRE.

M.A. in English Program Requirements

(a) Applicants must have either a B.A. in English or a minimum of 18 semester hours of literature course work, in either case with sufficiently high grades. (b) They must have completed a course in literary criticism (such as ENG4014) with a grade of B or higher. (c) They must have sufficiently high GRE scores. (d) Applicants must also submit a writing sample directly to the Graduate Coordinator.
