English at UNF — Faculty Contacts for English Majors

The English Department offers its majors many opportunities to interact with faculty, most importantly in classes that are reasonably small and that typically emphasize discussion and written work. The Faculty Contacts Program is useful too, especially for new majors and majors who are still early in their programs of study.

We encourage you, as an English major, to choose a faculty member in the department as your contact, and to do so as early in your program of study as you possibly can. If you don't know which faculty member to choose, you will find this website and a brochure, which is available in the English
Office, helpful because they both list our English faculty along with their special interests.

Your faculty contact is prepared to talk with you about English as a discipline, our curriculum and its requirements, what English majors do after they graduate from UNF, how to apply to graduate or professional schools, or anything else that might be of special interest to both of you. This relationship does not, however, substitute for your relationship with an academic advisor. For information about programs of study and requirements for graduation, you should make an appointment with the Advising Office in the College of Arts & Sciences.

If you prefer to have a faculty member assigned to you, then contact the department chair, William Slaughter, who is a contact for all English majors, or visit the department office, 8/2301. The chair, in conversation with you, will recommend an appropriate faculty member as your contact. E-mail addresses and office hours for English Faculty are posted on this website.
