First Annual Public Speaking Competition

The Department of Communication held its first annual Public Speaking Competition on the evening of April 2, 2009. Twenty-eight students enrolled in SPC 2060, Fundamentals of Speech, presented their either an informative or persuasive speech before one of six opening round audiences at 7:00 pm. The top speaker from each group then advanced to a final round at 8:30.

The competition was coordinated by Communication faculty members Sam and Traci Mathies. Judges were recruited from the Communication faculty and from the community. All finalists were presented a plaque.

The First Place Award was presented to Lauren Taylor
