Media Week Connects Media Professionals with Students, Faculty

 

 

Media Week 2013, which ran from Oct. 14 to Oct. 18, helped students meet media professionals and learn from their experience. Information about the event is listed below.

 

One Media Week event that you can watch is the concluding panel discussion, titled “State of the Media Industry.” These panelists discussed the current state of the media industry and trends to watch for:

UNF’s Department of Communication is hosting Media Week Oct. 14-Oct. 18 to provide students and faculty with insights from professionals in advertising, public relations, journalism, and production. Media professionals will visit communication classes, engage students in specialized Q-and-A sessions, and participate in a panel on the state of the media industry.

 

Media professionals will guest lecture in 18 classes, including multimedia storytelling, advertising campaigns, public relations cases, law and ethics of communication, and mass communication research. Guest lecturers include John Burr, editor-in-chief of the Jacksonville Business Journal; Ron Littlepage, columnist for the Florida Times-Union; Christine Bowley, executive producer at WTEV/WAWS-TV; Cynthia Weiss, senior marketing communication specialist at Mayo Clinic; and Katie Evans, a member of the ad platform team at Twitter.

 

In addition, students in the advertising, public relations, and multimedia journalism and production tracks can attend track-specific breakout sessions with media professionals. The professionals will talk about their field and answer students’ questions regarding the skills needed to be successful. Media professionals attending include Kristi Dosh, sports business reporter for ESPN; John Apostol, Web developer for iDrive Marketing; and Heather Smith, social media manager at Anton West Advertising.

 

Media Week will conclude with a panel discussion on the current state of the media industry. This event is open to the public. Participants include Jim Dalton, president of the Dalton Agency; Jeff McCurry, president of St. John & Partners; Jason Mudd, CEO of Axia Public Relations; Sharon Siegel-Cohen, executive producer of WJXT; and Marilyn Young, editor of the Financial News and Daily Record.
