Pamela Mertens (formerly Dronski,) Visiting Instructor for the Criminal Justice & Criminology Department. Currently pursuing Doctorate from NOVA Southeastern University, Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Crime in America, Introduction to Criminal Justice, Law/Deviance/Social Control and Juvenile Delinquency and Juvenile Justice.
Professor Mertens is currently in the final stages of her doctoral studies from NOVA Southeastern University and expects to defend her dissertation by the summer of 2010. Her Ph.D. will be in Conflict Analysis and Resolution with a focus in Crisis Management and Critical Incident Response.
Professor Mertens received her Master’s in Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida in 2006. She received her Bachelor’s in Administration in Criminology from the University of South Florida in 2004. She is also a former United States Marine where she performed duties as a Crime Scene Photographer and a former Navy Reservist.
Professor Mertens has taught a variety of courses during her previous employment at UNF from May 2007 to August 2008, which included Drugs and Crime, Crime in America, Women and the Legal System, Introduction to Criminal Justice and Women and Prison. From August 2008 to May 2009, Professor Mertens was a faculty member at Savannah State University in Savannah, Georgia, where she taught Comparative Criminal Justice Systems, Violent Crime and Justice and Human Behaviors, to name just a few.
Professor Mertens is also a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family and Civil Mediator and enjoys teaching others the skills and techniques that arise during everyday conflicts. It is her belief that unaddressed or improperly addressed conflicts are major factors in the crime rate being experienced today. While her dissertation focus is in identifying alternatives to incarceration for non-violent offenders, mentoring is an ongoing project and source of gratification.
