Center for Criminal Justice Policy Research
Mission Statement
The Center for Criminal Justice Policy Research coordinates the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs operating in policing, courts, corrections and juvenile justice. The Center works in partnership with community stakeholders in both governmental and non-profit sectors, utilizing the academic resources of the University of North Florida and methods of interdisciplinary social science research.
Primary Goals
Documenting Justice: The Cycle of Violence & Crime
- To document that victimization and offending are related social phenomena among criminal justice – involved juveniles in Jacksonville, Florida, and elsewhere.
- To document that victimization, not offending, is the most common form of criminal justice experience for minority juveniles.
- To document that economic deprivation and social isolation are part of the cycle of victimization and offending.
- To tell the story of one (Southern) community seeking to come to terms with the Cycle of Violence by undertaking a Community-Building Effort focused on Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC).
