Ongoing Professional Development
Instructors who have completed TOL5100 or TOL6100 are eligible to take up to two Sloan-C workshops at no cost. The CIRT Events schedule provides additional opportunities for ongoing professional development from CIRT staff in addition to webinars from national organizations including the Educause Learning Initiative, Academic Impressions, the Sloan Foundation, and the New Media Consortium.
National Certification
Alumni of TOL 6100 may apply for a seat in the national iON Master Online Teacher certificate program. This rigorous 18-month program recognizes and certifies faculty, staff, and administrators who achieve a measurable level of knowledge related to online course design, online instruction, and other issues related to online teaching and learning. A limited number of spots will be funded each year and stipends available to participants. Faculty who achieve national certification are expected to provide service to the university community in the form of mentoring, course review, and/or workshop delivery. Contact CIRT for more information.
National Certification provided by the Illinois Online Network.
DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAM TRANSITION
Each academic year from 2012-2017, a minimum of two certificate or degree programs will be selected and provided significant support and resources to either (a) convert the entire program to fully online or (b) develop a new certificate or degree program as one delivered fully online. This will be accomplished by providing a full instructional design model. Support for selected faculty and departments will include, but may not be limited to:
- A seat in the Teaching Online Seminar (TOL6100) for each program faculty.
- A departmental budget for use towards the development and delivery of the distance learning program. Funds may be used for activities which support the development and delivery of the distance learning program.
- The dedicated assistance of an instructional designer to develop the courses, working in conjunction with an identified faculty Course Developer.
- Stipends to the faculty Course Developer for up to 2 courses in each program beyond the course developed in TOL6100.
Look for call for proposal, typically goes out in Fall of each academic year from programs to be transitioned the following year.
