Student 3D Printing Projects

Student generated objects can be submitted for printing with a signed project proposal from a faculty member. An example of an accepted proposal can be found here There is no cost for this service, but we do stress the mindful use of materials with projects of this nature.

  •  3dknotThe student generates a written proposal for their project which will need to be signed and submitted to CIRT by a faculty sponsor.
  • If the project is accepted, the student will create the model on their own as an exploratory learning exercise.
  • We will do a ‘3-point inspection’ of the student generated object and if the model ‘passes’, print the object.

Note: Our printer operates best using .stl or .obj format files. Guidelines for 3D printing can be found here. Recommendations for free 3D modeling software can be found here.
