Where do I log into Canvas?

Users can log into Canvas at http://canvas.unf.edu. A link will be added to myWings before the start of the fall semester.


When can I start using Canvas? 

Canvas is available now.  You can choose to start teaching in Canvas in Fall of 2016 or Spring of 2017, however by Summer 2017 UNF will use Canvas for all courses.


How do I create a guest (external use) account in Canvas? 

Development of a process to provision external user accounts on request is planned for Spring 2017.


Is UNF's clicker system integrated with Canvas? 

TurningPoint Cloud integration is available in Canvas as of December 2016. For more information visit CIRT's Clicker page.


What are my username and password for Canvas?

Your Canvas login credentials will be the same as your Blackboard credentials.


How reliable is Canvas? 

Canvas is hosted by Amazon Web Services, with 99.9% uptime guaranteed.


When are Canvas maintenance windows? 

Canvas updates are pushed out regularly without the need for maintenance windows.


Why is Canvas sending me so much email? 

Canvas contacts you as part of its Notifications feature. Please see this tutorial on how to customize the notifications or alerts you receive notifications from Canvas in the amount and frequency that is right for you.


How can I add or change a profile picture?  

Here’s a tutorial on adding or changing your profile picture in Canvas.  Where does this profile picture display?  Next to your discussion posts and in course rosters, for example.


Can I edit my Faculty Bio in Canvas?

For now, faculty will need to continue to go to Blackboard to edit their faculty bio. A link outside of Blackboard will be made available before Blackboard shuts down.


What are some of the more popular features of Canvas?   

What was the basis of the selection of Canvas? 

 UNF opted into Canvas after the Florida Board of Governors selected Canvas as Florida’s common LMS. For more information about the process visit the LMS selection page.


Do I have to use Canvas?
Blackboard will remain available for course delivery during Fall 2016, and Spring 2017, but after that time, only Canvas will be available for course delivery.

Does Canvas offer plagiarism detection software options?
Canvas does not have a built in function, like Blackboard's Safe Assign, but integrates with 3rd party solutions. Vericite is currently available for use in Canvas.

Will students receive training in the use of Canvas?

Will courses I have already developed and those I’m in the process of developing in Blackboard be able to be imported into Canvas?
Yes, CIRT will offer a variety of migration options to faculty for moving course materials. Visit the Course Migration page for more information.
