Parent Organization

Not only does the Child Development Research Center (CDRC) preschool provide a wonderful, caring child care environment, it also aims to reinforce the parent-child bond and help facilitate interaction between other CDRC parents through its Parent Organization. Membership in the Parent Organization is a step toward a higher level of parental involvement at CDRC preschool by creating a planned program of experiences and activities that support and enhance the family. While the CDRC does some fund-raising, its primary goal is to get preschool parents involved with their children in various sponsored activities. Every year the Parent Organization meets to design activities for families to enjoy, as well as other activities to help support the preschool and family life. Some of our previous activities include:

  • Trips to the Cummer Museum
  • Night walks on the UNF Trails
  • Movie night at UNF's cinema
  • A trip to ArtWalk in Downtown Jacksonville
  • Organizing Teacher Appreciation
  • Forums about improvements/praises for CDRC
  • Child-rearing seminars
  • Speakers about kindergarten & The Magnet Program

The CDRC preschool's Parent Organization meets once a month for an hour and a half. This year's meetings will begin with Parent Organization business/discussions, followed by a seminar on Conscious Discipline by Pamela Bell, director of CDRC preschool. The seminar on Conscious Discipline is a 10-step program that aims to help parents discipline their children without punishment. It is a program that CDRC preschool staff are continually trained in, and has benefitted both the staff and the preschool children. Please join us in our monthly meetings to help enrich our children's lives as well as our own.
