Dean's Welcome Letter
Have you ever thought about designing a rainwater harvesting system for a children’s home in Ghana? Or created a computer system that helps provide health care to those less fortunate in the Jacksonville community? Did you know that College researchers and engineering students are working together to replace batteries in military laptops with methanol fuel cells? Welcome to the College of Computing, Engineering and Construction!
The students and faculty in the College work on many exciting projects that make a real difference in our world. The College offers exciting and demanding degree programs that lead to highly rewarding careers. The School of Computing offers bachelors and masters degrees that lead to high-demand jobs. The School of Engineering offers both bachelors and masters degrees in the core engineering disciplines of electrical, mechanical and civil engineering. The engineering masters degree programs began in 2008 and are off to a strong start. The Department of Construction Management is committed to creating the best construction professionals through its popular bachelors program and its MBA construction track that is offered jointly with the Coggin College of Business.
The faculty of our College are committed to preparing our students to make significant contributions to their chosen professions and the northeast Florida region and beyond. One of the College’s hallmarks is the interaction of the faculty and students on research projects, from building wind sensors on bridges to performing tests on the material used for the new telescope that will replace the Hubble.
In our College, you will find a committed cadre of students working and studying together, sharing common goals and aspirations. There are well over a dozen active student groups that provide professional and social support, making the time here at UNF meaningful and fun.
Of great value to us, too, is the support the College receives from many individuals and companies in the greater Jacksonville community. These supporters are dedicated to sharing their expertise and financial resources to ensure that we all are successful in our endeavors. I extend a note of thanks to them.
The College is poised for greater excellence, and I am proud to be the Interim Dean of CCEC. The Dean’s Office, the faculty and the staff of the College are here to help you succeed on your path to excellence and success.
