Dean's Welcome Letter
Welcome to the University North Florida's College of Computing, Engineering, and Construction (CCEC).
CCEC has a long record of success and continues to make huge advances. CCEC offers excellent undergraduate programs in building construction management, civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, information science, and information systems, as well as a successful graduate degree program in computer and information science. In cooperation with CCEC, the Coggin College of Business offers a construction management track in its MBA program. CCEC offers additional graduate courses and degree programs by cooperating with other Florida State University System schools through the Florida Engineering Education Delivery System (FEEDS).
The engineering and building construction management programs are housed in the new 133,000 square foot Engineering and Science Building. The computing sciences programs have excellent facilities in the Mathews Computer Science Building.
CCEC recognizes the importance of specialized accreditation for its degree programs. The undergraduate programs in computer science and information systems are accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET. The civil engineering and electrical engineering undergraduate programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. The mechanical engineering program is expected to receive its letter of accreditation by this November. The building construction management program is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE). The criteria applied by these agencies insure that our graduates are technically competent and also well-grounded in general education and liberal arts studies.
CCEC sponsors numerous student organizations that provide professional and social support for our students. These organizations include student chapters of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM); the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP); the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE); the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE); the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME); the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineering (ASHRAE); the Florida Engineering Society (FES); the National Society of Women Engineers (NSWE); the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC); the Construction Management Association (CMA); the Associated General Contractors (AGC); and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). CCEC has honor societies to recognize academic and professional excellence, including Upsilon Pi Epsilon--the honor society for computing sciences, Eta Kappa Nu -- the honor society for electrical engineering, and Sigma Lambda Chi--the honor society for construction management.
CCEC's programs enjoy exceptional support from local industry. That support is especially evident from the enthusiastic participation of the College's and Departments' advisory councils for its building, computing, and engineering programs. These busy professionals donate many hours of their time to serving CCEC, its faculty, and it students.
In addition to its nationally recognized academic programs, CCEC offers students real-world educational experiences through UNF's Cooperative Education Program and through employment or participation in the College's many sponsored and applied research projects.
The bedrock of any academic program is its faculty. CCEC has exceptional faculty members in all of its programs. Their first priorities are teaching and the general welfare of their students. Most excel also in research and service to the community and their disciplines.
CCEC office staff and laboratory staff provide superb support for our students and faculty. Students needing information on academic matters or University-related technical matters can get help quickly.
Please browse around the CCEC web site and contact us if you have questions. We look forward to seeing you at UNF!
