Engineer to Support Research Activities

OPS Position


Job Summary
The University of North Florida (UNF) has a full-time position for an engineer to support sponsored research activities. The nature of the work is technical requiring diverse engineering skills as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. All work will be performed in Gainesville, Florida. The successful candidates will be degreed (or soon to receive their degree) engineer in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related fields. The candidates will be OPS employees of the University of North Florida.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assists in development, optimization, and implementation of technical hardware used to evaluate performance of pavement-based materials.
  • Operation and maintenance of hardware.
  • Interface with equipment manufacturers to achieve program goals. Provide support and assistance in the operation and maintenance of data acquisition systems.
  • Assists in the post-processing and analysis of technical data.
  • Author reports, technical documents, and technical papers.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Responsibilities:
  • Knowledge of electromechanical principles and analytical techniques and demonstrated skill in the application of such knowledge.
  • Ability to learn the operation of unique, special purpose data acquisition software. Familiarity with National Instruments Lab View a plus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use basic electric hand tools: saws, drills, soldering iron, etc.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside under adverse environmental conditions.
  • Knowledge of optics and lasers a plus but not necessary.
