The University of North Florida, one of eleven public universities in the State of Florida, invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Computing, Engineering and Construction. The University consists of five colleges and has over 16,000 students. The College of Computing, Engineering and Construction has more than 45 faculty and is home to the School of Engineering, the School of Computing, and the Department of Construction Management. The College offers a full range of bachelor's programs and has master's degree programs in the Schools of Computing and Engineering. UNF is located seven miles inland from the Atlantic Ocean and twelve miles southeast of downtown Jacksonville and is a comprehensive urban university in the midst of a nature preserve of more than 1,300 acres. The qualified candidate will provide evidence of the following in his or her application:
- Administrative and organizational skills to work effectively on behalf of and in collaboration with the college's faculty and chairs, and other administrators, faculty, and staff in the university;
- A strong record of scholarship and commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service;
- Strong leadership and communication skills;
- Skills or experience indicating the capability for effective fund raising;
- An appreciation of the interrelationships between the programs offered by the College and a commitment to their mutual advancement;
- A commitment to leading the College in strategic planning which promotes a vision of cohesion of the units, program assessment, and accreditation efforts;
- A demonstrated national presence in his/her discipline.
Candidates for this position must have attained the rank of Professor, have an earned doctorate in one of the disciplines of the College, and must be eligible for tenure in one of its academic units. Additionally, candidates must have had at least five years of administrative experience including significant supervisory and evaluative authority over faculty lines. Duties will include budget management and oversight, strategic planning, conducting personnel evaluations, fundraising, and overseeing accreditation and program assessment efforts. Administrative duties will be carried out in a collective bargaining environment. The dean reports directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
