Student Shadowing Program

The Student Shadowing Program offers freshman students who want to pursue an engineering degree the opportunity to be matched with a junior or senior engineering student who can give insight into the program, the student organizations, the faculty, and other related activities. It is a fun, fast, and effective way for students to connect with each other, the School, and the campus community.

How Does the Program Work?

Freshman and sophomore students are matched with a current engineering student randomly. They first connect by e-mail or phone. Students and their engineering mentors will correspond and get together throughout the academic year. This one-on-one relationship provides each student with the opportunity to make a meaningful connection and enhance the transition to the School of Engineering.

Mentors are encouraged to invite mentees to student organizational meetings and other student functions on campus or at industry site visits. Mentors will provide a great range of support and advice for that critical first year at UNF.

Who is Eligible?

The Student Shadowing Program is open to all freshman and sophomore students who would like to be paired up with an experienced engineering undergraduate mentor. Mentors provide support and resources to new undergraduate students to enhance their transition to the School of Engineering. It hopes to foster a sense of community involvement, and enable success and development in students’ academic, social, and personal endeavors.

Commitment Required

The student and their mentor will agree to:

  • attend an introductory event
  • participate in four follow-up sessions with each other during the semester
  • participate in an evaluation of the program
