K-12 Outreach

"Make the Connection" is an academic enrichment and career exploration program for K-12 students in the greater Jacksonville area.

Our Goal

The UNF School of Engineering began its outreach program in 2004. It is our goal to increase the quality, diversity, and number of students prepared to major and work in engineering and technology fields. Experience has shown that the best way to help our young students understand what engineers do is through a combination of field trips, in-class activities, and group discussions with professional and student engineers.

Maintaining a Competitive Workforce

Recent trends reveal that the number of U.S. high school seniors planning to study engineering is decreasing. Early introduction to engineering can encourage many capable students--especially girls and minorities--to consider it as a career, so that they enroll in the necessary science and math courses in high school.

Did You Know?

A study by the ACT reported a drop in the number of high school seniors planning to study engineering 90% of Americans believe that improving pre-college math and science education is a national priority that must be addressed. Learning about engineering will increase students' awareness of scientific and technical careers.
