Notes:
Advising Appointments:
- When a student is admitted to the BS program in Computer and Information
Sciences, an advising appointment is required to establish
an individualized Program of Study. For this initial advising session, the student
should bring along his or her UNF transcript evaluation (T.E.).
Generally, after the initial session to establish a program of study, most advising
needs for School of Computing students can be handled within the scope of the walk-in advising
format. A regular advising appointment is called for whenever the issue at hand is of
sufficient complexity that it cannot be covered within the scope of the walk-in format
as discussed below.
Walk-in Advising:
- Walk-in advising times are set aside to permit advisors to efficiently deal
with the myriad of minor academic issues that students encounter in their academic
pursuits, such as signature requests, permissions, or course substitutions. An
issue that cannot be dealt with in a session of 10
minutes or less is not appropriate for a walk-in session.
Creating a Program of Study or evaluating a student's transcript from another
institution are examples of advising needs that are too complex to be dealt with
during a walk-in session. In such cases, the student will be asked to schedule
an appointment at a later time to deal with the advising need.
Registration Walk-ins:
- During registration, academic advising is restricted to walk-in
advising at selected times during the School's hours of operation.
Call for exact hours each semester. While the School of Computing office staff can deal
with a small number of problems students encounter during registration,
academic issues generally require consultation with an academic advisor.
Because of the large number of small problems that occur during registration,
regular advising appointments are not available during this time period.
