Farouk Smith - Academic Major: Political Science and Public Administration; Engagement Focus: Volunteerism and Service

Farouk Smith, a UNF Department of Political Science and Public Administration graduate from Lagos, Nigeria, has shown great dedication and service to both the University of North Florida and the Jacksonville community through his volunteerism with organizations such as The United Way of Northeast Florida, The Arc Jacksonville, and the Gents for Jax Foundation.  His belief and passion for social progress and working for the common good led him to co-found the nonprofit program, Gents for Jax, which aids young high school men within lower income communities in growing the social and educational skills necessary to become productive members of society.  He has also participated in divergent campus community organizations such as the UNF On Campus Transition Program, Student Government, and Osprey Area Council. Farouk believes that he has an inherent duty to his fellow humans to utilize the lessons learned throughout his undergraduate years to better the world, through collaboration and dialogue, with those who differ from him.
