Jan Meires, FNP, BC, EdD

Professor, School of Nursing

Dr. Jan Meires currently serves as a Professor in UNF’s Brooks College of Health. She teaches facilitating all levels of students (BS, MS, Doctoral) across a number of disciplines (nursing, nutrition, physical therapy). Before arriving at UNF, where she received her doctoral degree, Dr. Meires studied nursing at Wichita State University and the University of Florida.

Dr. Meires has practiced as a cardiovascular clinical specialist/nurse practitioner for nearly four decades. She is also a member of the American Nurses Association (ANA), Florida Nurses Association (FNA), National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) and the Southern Nurses Research Society (SNRS). She was inducted as a community leader in Sigma Theta Tau (STT) and was selected as a Research Fellow by the North American Primary Care Research Group (NAPCRG) in conjunction with Society of the Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM).

Along with her teaching duties, Dr. Meires has been involved in CBTL for more than 20 years. As part of her Community Scholars project, Dr. Meires redesigned her Advanced Nursing Practice II course. In this course, students work as an integral member in an inter-professional team to provide primary care to underserved populations. Her students develop original, creative, evidence-based, culturally competent texts, photos with captions and videos for use in a mobile motivational health and wellness application (MomentStrong). The messages are then sent to public users of the mobile application. Examples of the student’s work can be found here
