Karthikeyan Umapathy, PhD - Assistant Professor, School of Computing

Karthikeyan Umapathy earned his PhD in Information Sciences and Technology and his MS in Industrial Engineering from Penn State University before coming to UNF to teach computing courses. His research interests center around analyzing, designing and developing information systems.

Dr. Umapathy believes it takes more than technical expertise to be effective at your job and he uses community-based learning to drive that point home. “CBTL is a perfect fit for our senior project class because students are expected to provide professional service to real world clients who provide them with real world problems and real world interactions.”

For his Community Scholar project, Dr. Umapathy is conducting a survey research to benchmark technology usage and needs of non-profit organizations in the Northeast Florida region. He has also looked at the most effective ways to be able to repeat course outcomes from semester to semester, which included developing a method for finding the right community partners to work with.
