Christopher Johnson, PhD
Assistant Professor, Economics; Chair, Commission on Diversity & Inclusion
Dr. Chris Johnson earned his BS and his PhD, both in Economics, from the University of Alabama. He had such a powerful experience in Tuscaloosa that he decided to become a professor. “I want my students to have as enjoyable and rich an experience as I had.”
Dr. Johnson’s research interests include the economics of poverty, income distribution, and income inequalities among races. He teaches using community-based learning pedagogy because “it helps students to put a face to poverty and economic hardships.” He wants his students to be civic minded and engaged with their community.
As a Community Scholar, Dr. Johnson revised his Economics of Poverty course, focusing on the alignment of his course outcomes and the experiences he and his partner, the Clara White Mission, created for students.
