will need to be well-organized, responsible, dependable, and have good oral and
written communication skills. Duties will include answering phones, sorting and
distributing mail, assisting with district research projects, running errands,
and aiding the constituent and field staff as necessary. Interns will often act
as a direct liaison between the member’s staff and constituents.
Most people think of Members of
Congress as lawmakers, first and foremost. But equally important is the help
that Congressional offices give to constituents who have problems with federal
departments and agencies. And this internship will be in two parts outlined
Interns will assist the caseworkers with Casework – or
Constituent Service, as it is often called –this is one of the most valuable
functions of a Congressional office. It fills an important humanitarian need
and gives the Member of Congress a direct line to the needs and concerns of his
or her constituents.
Interns will assist district office field representative in
various research projects. Some of these projects are based on District
information like demographics on special pockets for special events or
researching constituent Awards and recommendations within the district. Each
Intern will be assigned to 1 special project they will be responsible for
collecting data and putting into a document on a shared drive
The last part of your internship will involve basic
operations like filing, data entry, and cleaning office daily.
