Director's Letter to Prospective Students

UNF's MPH Program equips students with a broad understanding of the core areas of public health. MPH graduates will be able to integrate and apply this knowledge to address public health problems, and will possess skills and competencies necessary for public health practice. The program focuses on factors that influence population health including socioeconomic conditions, cultural beliefs and practices, behavioral risk factors and environmental exposures and host factors. The MPH degree is appropriate for those who want to pursue careers in health programs in a wide range of public and private institutions. The MPH program is aligned with the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals as defined by the Council on Linkages between Academic and Public Health Practice.

At the completion of this degree program, students are eligible to take the national examination for certification in health education (Certified Health Education Specialist). The CHES title is awarded to those who have met the standards of quality established by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing Inc (NCHEC). The MPH program is aligned with the 10 graduate competencies put forth by NCHEC. Students are encouraged to become members of the UNF student chapter of the Florida Association of Professional Health Educators, and to apply for membership in Eta Sigma Gamma, a national Health Education Honorary.
