Clinical Professor in Public Health
Dr. Harmon has served as Director of the Duval County Health Department in Jacksonville, Florida since August 2006. He oversees more than 800 staff, 15 clinics, and public health programs including maternal and child health, communicable and chronic disease prevention, environmental health, primary care, nutrition, correctional medicine, and research. He also serves as Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Univ. of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville. He formerly served as National Medical Director for UnitedHealth Group, Administrator of the Federal Health Resources and Services Administration, Director of the Missouri Dept. of Health and Director of the Maricopa County (AZ) Health Dept. He is board certified in preventive medicine and has completed a residency in internal medicine. Dr. Harmon has earned a Master’s in Public Health degree at Johns Hopkins University with a focus on International Health. Dr. Harmon has authored more than 50 publications dealing with quality improvement, managed care, primary care, public health administration, and health policy.
