Book Club - April 2014
UNF Alumni Book Club

Date: Wednesday, April 9

Time: 10-11:30 a.m.
Location: UNF Alumni Hall
Cost: Free

For April, the UNF Alumni Book Club will be reading "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak.

The extraordinary New York Times bestseller that is also a major motion picture, Markus Zusak's unforgettable story is about the ability of books to feed the soul.

It is 1939. Nazi Germany. The country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier and will become busier still. Liesel Meminger is a foster girl living outside of Munich who scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist – books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids, as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement.

This meeting of the book club will be Wednesday, April 9. The Alumni Book Club meets the second Wednesday of every month at 10 a.m. in the Office of Alumni Services located at Alumni Hall. Beverages and snacks will be provided. To join us or for more information, please contact the Office of Alumni Services by calling (904) 620-4723 or by e-mailing unf-alum@unf.edu.

For the past six years, members of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Collegiate Chapter and UNF alumni have taken a day trip to the Skydive Space Center in Titusville, Florida’s highest tandem jump center. The event was formed to allow students and alumni to gather in a unique setting where the students can learn of career opportunities outside of campus. This is not only a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but it gives students the chance to mix, mingle and network with UNF alumni.

The entire day is filled with fun photos, food, time with the jumpmasters, networking and of course, a 120-MPH 90-second free fall jump followed by a four- to six-minute parachute ride. The view of Cape Canaveral’s shuttle and rocket launches, along with the Atlantic Ocean can only be described as breathtaking.

The event is open for all UNF students, alumni, faculty, staff, friends, etc. For more information and to R.S.V.P. contact Lyndse Costabile, skydive event tandem coordinator, by calling (904) 860-1886 or by e-mailing lyndse.costabile@erau.edu.
