Alumni Association at Seven Bridges UNF Alumni Third Thursday co-hosted by Brooks College of Health Nursing Alumni - TONIGHT!

Location: Seven Bridges Grille and Brewery, Southside near Tinseltown
Cost: Free appetizers

Kick off the fall season and join us Oct. 17 at Seven Bridges for a casual evening of fun and networking with fellow alumni and friends. The appetizers are free, compliments of Seven Bridges. This is one of our most popular events, so come out to Seven Bridges and be part of the scene.

 

Calling all Nursing alumni! This month we're co-sponsoring with the Brooks College of Health School of Nursing, so come on out to catch up with old friends and professors!

LGBT Alumni Club LGBT Alumni Social

The next LGBT Alumni Social will be at the LGBT Resource Center at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 21. Food and wine will be served! Come see all the changes made at the Center and reconnect with old friends and fellow alumni! Parking permits are required and can be purchased at the campus entrance for $3.

Etiquette Dinner Alumni 'In Good Taste' Etiquette Dinner

The UNF Alumni Association cordially invites all alumni to "In Good Taste," a professional etiquette dinner taking place at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 6 at the Adam W. Herbert University Center. 

This is a fun-filled evening that guarantees to provide you with the dining confidence you need to move up in the workforce and get that promotion. Event includes a free four-course meal and reference guide, "Minding Your Manners."

Book Club November 2013 -new UNF Alumni Book Club

For November, the UNF Alumni Book Club will be reading "My Beloved World" by Sonja Sotomayor. 

"My Beloved World" is a memoir written by Sonya Sotomayor, the first Hispanic justice on the United States Supreme Court, about her childhood, education and life through 1992.

This meeting of the book club will be Wednesday, Nov. 13. The Alumni Book Club meets the second Wednesday of every month at 10 a.m. in the Office of Alumni Services located at Alumni Hall. MOCA Abstraction Over Time MOCA Jacksonville - Abstraction over Time: The Paintings of Michael Goldberg

 

The Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville, a cultural resource of the University of North Florida, presents Abstraction over Time: The Paintings of Michael Goldberg. While smaller-scale exhibitions have celebrated Michael Goldberg's canonical abstract expressionist works, no project to date has assessed the significance of his contribution to the continuation of abstraction as a vital art form in post-war America. The exhibit will run through Jan. 5. For information about the exhibit and museum hours, click here. 



Veterans Day Event Military and Veterans Resource Center Annual Veterans Day Tribute

 

Date: Thursday, Nov. 7    

Time: 10:30 a.m.
Location: Osprey Plaza
Cost: Free

 

The Military and Veterans Resource Center (MVRC) will host its annual Veterans Day Tribute at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, in Osprey Plaza. The Veterans Day Tribute will honor all those who have served — students, alumni, donors, faculty and staff.

 

The program includes a number of static displays of military hardware, a UNF Army ROTC Color Guard unit, VA Welcome Home display and food station and a performance of TAPS by a UNF student bugler. The event will also recognize veterans by service branch and conflict. The guest speaker this year is Rear Adm. Vic Guillory, director of Jacksonville's Military Affairs, Veterans and Disabled Services Department. For more information click here

 

 

 

Scott Turow Scott Turow Presents "A Novelist Goes to Hollywood"

Scott Turow, attorney and best-selling author, will present "A Novelist Goes to Hollywood" 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Adam W. Herbert University Center. Mr. Turow's books have won a number of literary awards, including the Heartland Prize in 2003 for "Reversible Errors" and the Robert F. Kennedy Book Award in 2004 for "Ultimate Punishment." His books have been translated into more than 25 languages and have sold more than 25 million copies worldwide. He is currently working on the upcoming book, "The Trial of the Gemini," expected for release in 2014.  

 

This lecture is underwritten by Pajcic & Pajcic, P.A. and co-hosted by the UNF College of Arts and Sciences and the UNF Pre-Law Program. This event is free and open to all alumni, faculty and students. However, tickets are required. E-tickets are available by clicking here. 

 

 

Dr. Michio Kaku Distinguished Voices Lecture Series presents Dr. Michio Kaku

Dr. Michio Kaku is a theoretical physicist, best-selling author, and popularizer of science. As the co-founder of string field theory (a branch of string theory), he continues Einstein's search to unite the four fundamental forces of nature into one unified theory that will summarize all the physical laws of the universe.

 

The author of numerous international bestsellers, Dr. Kaku's latest is "Physics of the Future: How Science Will Shape Human Destiny and Our Daily Lives by the Year 2100." Based on interviews with more than 300 of the world's top scientists, he presents revolutionary developments in medicine, computers, quantum physics and space travel that will forever change our way of life and alter the course of civilization itself.

Dan DiGrazio, director of logistics will discuss how Butterball achieves excellence through their Supply Chain Vision Strategy and the Four Pillars of Excellence. Commitment to quality and innovation allows Butterball to deliver superior products and services to consumers and stakeholders worldwide. 

  • Butterball is the largest vertically integrated turkey producer in the United States.
  • Produces 1 billion pounds annually and accounts for 20 percent of total turkey production in the country
  • Employs 5,000 associates in five plant locations and corporate offices
  • Measuring 675,000 square feet, the  Mt. Olive, N.C. facility is the world's largest turkey plant

Athletics Logo 2 UNF Men's Basketball Hosts Fourteen Home Games 2013-2014 Season
 
The 2013-14 University of North Florida Men's Basketball schedule features 14 home games, along with several match-ups against prominent national programs as announced by fifth-year Osprey head coach Matthew Driscoll.

 
UNF's non-conference schedule is highlighted by games against teams from high major conferences, including the SEC (Florida, Alabama) and Big Ten (Ohio State, Indiana, Michigan State), along with strong mid-major programs Arkansas-Little Rock and Middle Tennessee State.
