Time: 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Location: UNF Alumni Hall (4804 South Kernan Blvd.)

For August, the UNF Alumni Book Club will be reading Growing Up Jacksonville by Dorothy Fletcher. This book describes Jacksonville during the '50s and '60s as a wonderful and energetic place for the children who called it home. Mothers belonged to garden clubs and fathers played the golf links, while the children who grew up in Jacksonville frolicked on the warm beaches and fed peanuts to Miss Chic, the first elephant at the Jacksonville Zoo. They strapped on skates and held hands as they circled the rink of the famous Skateland, wandered down the stacks at Haydon Burns Library and crossed the many bridges that traversed Jacksonville's waterways. Join Dorothy Fletcher, former columnist for the Florida Times-Union, as she recounts the memories and adventures of the people who grew up Jacksonville.

This meeting of the book club will be Wednesday, August 8. The Alumni Book Club meets the second Wednesday of every month at 10 a.m. in the Office of Alumni Services located at Alumni Hall. Beverages and snacks will be provided. To join us or for more information, please contact the Office of Alumni Services at (904) 620-4723.

The Joys of Collecting: Selections from the Eisen Collection
The Joys of Collecting: Selections from the Eisen Collection

The UNF Department of Art and Design presents selections from the collection of Judy Eisen and the late Dr. Saul Eisen.

If one word were used to describe the Eisen’s collection, it would have to be quality. Many of the artists’ names represented here are well known to the museum-going public: Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, Robert Motherwell, Richard Diebenkorn, Jean Dubuffet and Lucien Freud. The works of these artists are in many important museums, and their works on display are united by being highly characteristic of their styles and movements, which range from Pop Art to Art Brut to abstract and figural expressionism.
